He has just announced a new program whereby skinny Whole Foods employees will enjoy bigger discounts at work than their fat colleagues. Nope, not making it up. BMI-based benefits, people. Can we stop shopping there now?

I feel like anyone who’s shopped at Whole Foods regularly somehow deserves to be shocked and shouldn’t get that upset. For the last 10 years the company sought to alter the American diet, using high quality foods at first and then through promoting a conscious culture as of late. Just because they carry kale and Swiss chard doesn’t mean they won’t stop carrying beer and chocolate. Just because you know the coffee beans and rice come from an organic source trough fair trade agreements doesn’t mean they won’t stop carrying over-preserved snack foods and have a fattening salad bar.

I assure you the fattest people on the Whole Foods staff are going to get paid better than employees at a competitor company, and they’ll treated fairly as the labor laws dictate their employer to treat them.

Whole Foods sole philosophy is to accommodate everyone.

… except organized labor.
